Teenagers didn’t always exist. In this living collage of rare archival material, filmed portraits, and voices lifted from early 20th Century diary entries, a struggle erupts between adults and adolescents to define a new idea of youth.

About the team

Matt Wolf (Director/Writer) is a New York-based filmmaker. His critically acclaimed and award-winning feature documentary Wild Combination about the avant-garde cellist and disco producer Arthur Russell was released worldwide in 2008. Matt’s film I Remember is about the artist and poet Joe Brainard. Matt has made short films for PBS, the Sundance Channel, and the New York Times, including the Op-Doc collaboration with Jon Savage “The Role of Youth.” Matt recently created a documentary series for the Whitney Museum and completed a documentary about the children’s book illustrator and Eloise co-creator Hilary Knight, executive produced by Lena Dunham for HBO.
